I should have told them, “just give it 20 minutes”
Just 20 minutes. That’s all. Its not like 30, the length of say a whole episode of your new favorite TV show. Not the length of a class you have to sit through, not the length of time it takes for you to shower and get ready.
Everytime I would tell my kids we’re going for a walk in nature they groan, they fight. They don’t want to.
“Come on! ,Its only 20 minutes.!!!” I loving call to them as I’m hiking ahead, not giving into their compants. #momknowsbest And maybe I’d throw in a couple “If you can’t get out of it, get into it” ‘s at them. And especially “Go touch the water.” to TO, my Water type.
but the beautiful thing my child is that after just a could minutes your nervous system will re-regulate. You’ll be more inline. YOu’ll calm the F down and your spirit will be free once again. You will be who you truly are.
without the expectations of how this is going to go, without the racing thoughts of how uncomfortable this is going to be and how you don’t want to. All the subconcious screams to keep you stuck in the loop of agitation, sweet comfortable agitation and angst. So do not miss you.
But my darling child, if you would only venture into the forest for a meer 10 minutes, those fairy whispers will tickle your ear… “come closer” they plead, Then Oh, look at this flower over here, the colors are so interesting, mmm wanna smell my sweet nectar? Over there, a cool looking mushroom… Then your Ego, your demon subconscious drops down and your spirit soars higher. You return to the wonder of your youth. Well not compelty. Though I have witnessed some pretty exotic happenings when people really let their guards down. This one time, a friend and I were walking and talking and all the sudden a pheasant dances across our path and wasn’t that just the spirit animal she was hoping for, sending her a message of hope she needing. #godworksthroughme #foryou #godlovesyou
Anyway, if they knew what I did and if they could only remember the last time we were walking in the woods and how much they enjoyed it after those first 25 minutes. Literally every single time.
and its scientifically proven (which I would reference to back up my knowledgeable prowess). The threshold for aka MED aka miminum effectice dose for time spent in nature to experience enhancements to physical , mental and cognitive benefits is 20 minutes.
Says Who?
Now, before you try to correct me saying - Mar, the research says 10 minutes. I have witnessed the benefits in school and teenage children to be 20 minutes, 10 minutes they can still withstand the grudge, 15 they are in panic mode / meltdown zone but oh boy! you get then to 20, and wow even 25!! They are Golden (cue the Huntrix Kpop song). But it’s true. And you know its true because you are a human, Because you are a parent that takes their kids out in nature often. Because you know how good it is for them/their bodies but mostly because you know its true for you. You’ve felt it. You’ve experienced it. And how good that felt to be out in the open air with the wind blowing your face as you gaze up to the flock of birds dancing together into a nearby tree. Or the suns glisten captured your eye as you watch a bumblebee filling up in a nearby daisies. The smell of the woods just after a summers rain, the feeling of crunching fallen oak leaves collecting in the walkway on your fall class commute. Or just gazing aweingly up at the night sky with a full moon! Nature is so amazing! This Earth is so incredibly beautiful that not taking the to notice it, to wonder about it is wasted time. Thinking about the earth is a practice in loving it, giving it your attention and as you push that love outwards to mother nature, she does this magical thing and gives love right back to you, and bigger. Like a tighter hug, or saying “to the moon and back. times infinity“
Don’t just take my word it, this is not from me. Its truth.
A universal truth, a spiritual law. It’s the Law of Circulation, the Law of Karma, Cause and Effect. "Sowing and Reaping"—jist of it, the energy, actions, and thoughts you put into the world inevitably return to you.
And its in the bible, and the Course in Miracles, its one of the secrets.
The more you love mother nature, Earth, your home planet…. the more you give to source, the more you will receive back.
So can you spare 20 minutes to connect with the divine? it’d be a shame not to give it a try. But knowing you, you’re going to love it so much that you make it a part of your lifestyle. You’ll seek it out. You’ll make time to spent time in nature. An easy hike walk with a friend, a moving coffee date, an efficient lunch break, just a couple strolls around the block, maybe its to the river and back. or to the blue house with the broken mailbox, to the traffic light, stop sign… whatever. I always seem to find a visable distance that we can turn around at. Some days we go further, but at the minimum we go 10 minutes out, 10 minutes back. The perfect after dinner family activity. Or at least it was until my kids grew into teen years when afterschool activities takes
Now that I think about it, its actually a way of tithing. From Edwene Gaines 4 Spiritual Laws of Prosperity Giving. To Tithe is “to return 10 percent of all we recieve to a person, place or institution form which we have received spiritual food.“ Spending 10% of your time in a 24 hour day, maybe that’s 20 minutes…. oh just another way to tithe back to god. Giving love will give you back love. power, energy
